I don’t like asking people for money, but this is a special occasion. I’ve mentioned before that I’m adopting my 7 year old nephew so my Mom set up a gofundme to help with the legal fees. Once the adoption is final, my wife will be able to sleep because my sister won’t be able to take Jonah. At the moment she’s still willingly giving him to us, but that could change any day. Any donations are greatly appreciated, thanks.

It’s too late for this year, and I don’t know where you live, but you should see if your area has an “Adoption Saturday” or does something for National Adoption Day. My prior firm — which was not a family law firm — participated in Adoption Saturday, didn’t charge any attorney’s fees, and sometimes would even cover all the adoption costs for very needy foster families. If you want to post where you live, I’m happy to try to see if I can find any info for you (but you’d probably have just as good luck with Google).

A couple of months after my mom died in 2013 I got a message on FB from a girl who told me she was my sister.

As it turns out, my dad had fathered a child outside of my parents’ marriage and had nothing to do with her after meeting her at two weeks old. A very loving man adopted my sister after marrying her mother.

As furious as I was at my dad for behaving this way (and hiding her from me for 31 years) I am equally thankful she was able to grow up with a father who loved her when mine wouldn’t.

Today is my dad’s 73rd birthday and in lieu of buying him another thoughtless birthday gift I donated what I could to your campaign. It is a very compassionate thing you are doing.

Someone else said you lived in the Minneapolis area. Faegre Baker Daniels used to participate in the Adoption Saturday program. Also check with the Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid Society.

I know firsthand how worthwhile it is to take in, love and raise a child whose biological parent or parents can’t, won’t, or shouldn’t. If I could practice law in your state (or, perhaps more importantly, knew anything at all about family law), I’d help you more directly, but hopefully every little bit helps, so I donated instead. Thanks. Lucky we have a lawyer who is experiencing in family law, and a family friend. He should take care of things for us. Hopefully it will be quick and easy.

Indeed. His Hotwheels and lego collectionshave grown quite abit since he’s come to live with us.
